Jeremy Swayman’s future in Boston in doubt after Don Sweeney’s bold statement

Something’s brewing in Boston—and it’s not just offseason chatter. The Bruins are walking into the summer with a big question mark hanging over their crease, and it’s starting to look like a decision is coming sooner rather than later.

The noise started when word got out that both Jeremy Swayman and Joonas Korpisalo have no plans to settle for a backup role next season.

That’s a problem.

Two goalies, one net—it just doesn’t work when neither guy’s willing to take a step back.

So now, the front office—led by Don Sweeney—has to figure it out.

Fast.

Sweeney spoke recently about Swayman’s play, and while he didn’t take a direct shot, his tone raised eyebrows.

Clearly we’d like him to get back to the level that he’s more than capable of getting to.

That’s not a throwaway line.

That’s a pointed remark from a GM who sounds like he’s running out of patience. Swayman hasn’t been bad, but he hasn’t looked like the guy who stole games for Boston just a season ago.

That version of him feels distant.

At the same time, Korpisalo has turned a few heads with solid stretches of play. Sweeney didn’t go out of his way to praise him—but he didn’t need to.

The contrast spoke loud enough.

The reality is this: something’s got to give.

You can’t carry two goalies who both expect to start, especially when the cap’s tight and roster spots are valuable.

One of them is likely gone before opening night.

Right now, Swayman is the name being whispered.

He’s younger. He’s got trade value.

And for a team that might be looking to shake things up, he could be the piece that gets something big in return.

That’s not to say Korpisalo is a lock to stay. But between Sweeney’s comments and Swayman’s dip in performance, the writing feels like it’s on the wall.

Bruins fans have seen quiet offseasons before—this won’t be one of them.

The goalie question is just one piece of the puzzle, but it’s a big one. And the way it’s shaping up, it could be the first domino to fall.

Whether the Bruins stick with Swayman or pivot toward Korpisalo, the crease won’t look the same come fall.

Decisions are coming. It’s just a matter of who gets the call—and who gets moved.
