Morgan Geekie, Boston Bruins, Don Sweeney, contract talks dominate the offseason buzz after a clear decision changes the outlook for the summer.
Big decisions are already starting to trickle out of Boston, and one just dropped about a key player who broke through this year.
This summer already feels different in Boston and for good reason.
Brad Marchand, the team’s emotional anchor for so long, won’t be steering the ship.
With that change comes a whole lot of uncertainty.

General manager Don Sweeney, who’s not exactly earning unanimous praise for his re-tooling plans, has some serious roster moves to sort through.
Plenty of names could be on the move. But one guy they’re hanging onto? Morgan Geekie.

Contract year timing couldn’t have been better for Geekie
Geekie, still just 26, gave the Bruins a lot to cheer about in a year when positives were hard to find.
He racked up career highs — 33 goals, 24 assists — over 77 games.
In short, he picked the perfect time to have a breakout season.
Geekie’s timing is pretty much textbook for a guy about to hit restricted free agency on July 1st.
He’s coming off a $2 million deal and, based on how things shook out this year, there’s no doubt he’ll be looking for a healthy raise.
Some inside the league figure he could easily double that number — if not more.
Turns out, the Bruins aren’t planning to let him walk.
Don Sweeney made it clear during a recent hit with 98.5 The Sports Hub’s Ty Anderson that Geekie is staying put:
Sweeney says
Morgan Geekie will be on next year’s team.
No vague quotes. No “we’ll see what happens.”
Just a flat-out, public commitment and that’s massive for Geekie as he steps into negotiations.
Sweeney’s announcement flips the negotiating table
Here’s why that matters:
By confirming Geekie’s return this early, Sweeney basically handed the young forward a stronger hand at the table.
It’s rare for management to tip their cards like this before talks even start, but it speaks volumes about how much they value what Geekie brings.
He’s not just a 30-goal guy now — he’s a player they see as part of the next core. And with Marchand gone, leadership roles are up for grabs too.
The question isn’t whether Geekie will be a Bruin next season — it’s how big of a chunk of the cap he’ll carve out for himself.
If this is how the Bruins are starting their summer business, things could get even more interesting before July rolls around.
